Deterrent

What’s better than getting valuable evidence of someone breaking into your home or business?

How about stopping them from entering in the first place?

The British Crime Survey says a house with less than basic security has an average risk of 5.8% of being burgled, whereas a house with basic security has an average chance of 0.9% of being burgled. And what is the most basic kind of security? A deterrent.

Security Lights

This is the aim of our NightWatcher Robotic Security Lights, to deter potential burglars from coming onto your property in the first place. Our patented, motion-activated lights make intruders feel like they’re being watched by activating if a movement is sensed within their 210˚ field of vision. They then follow the source of movement until it is no longer within range. This unwanted voyeurism should make any intruders abandon their cause and move on.

CCTV Cameras

Having CCTV cameras up on your property also acts as a good deterrent. Intruders will see cameras up and therefore will know that your property is well secured. The HD camera inside the Robotic Security Lights records the movements of any intruders and allows you to access the footage via your smartphone. Criminals are becoming more and more intelligent and are able to recognise fake alarm and camera systems. A study by the University of North Carolina’s Department of Criminology found that 60% of burglars stated that the presence of a security system affected their decision to leave the property without breaking in. That is why real security systems are the only real way to truly deter opportunist intruders. Cameras should always be visible to anyone approaching your property or business. If they can’t be seen, they can’t deter.

The best places to place security lights and cameras are:

  • Front entrance- high enough to avoid vandalism, perhaps behind mesh wiring.
  • Back entrance- same as front entrance.
  • First Floor Window- inside the house, pointed at the window.

Other deterrents can be quite simple; such as leaving the lights and television on when you leave the house. It can make the house look occupied and that can be enough to deter some criminals.

Dogs and a close proximity to traffic are also big deterrents for burglars as dogs can be aggressive and loud towards intruders and if there is traffic passing by, then there are potential witnesses. However, most burglars will begin by knocking on the door to see if anyone is home. If no-one answers, then they will attempt to break in.

The key is to make your house or business look as secure and occupied as possible whilst you are in your house and away to deter all prospective thieves.
